Step #1: Exploring Your Options
At Dream-Dentistry & Sleep Care, providing you with high-quality, comfortable care is our priority. And we want you to be able to explore your teeth replacement options in a low-pressure setting. That’s why our dental implants consultations are free of charge! You can just come in and get the information you need to make great decisions about your oral health.
During your consultation, you’ll meet with Dr. Roeder or Dr. Kulp, both of whom are passionate about helping patients transform their smiles with dental implants. They’ll assess your situation and — whether you’re missing a single tooth or an entire set of teeth — suggest dental implant solutions that would enhance your appearance and improve your dental function.
One of the great things about dental implants is that they’re incredibly versatile. When we’re talking about the “dental implant” itself, we’re talking about the small metal post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Dental implants can be used to anchor a number of dental restorations, so you’ve got lots of options.
- Replace a single tooth with one dental implant restored with a dental crown.
- Anchor a dental bridge to dental implants to replace a series of missing teeth.
- Use dental implants to secure a removable denture so you no never have to worry about adhesives.
Plus, Dr. Roeder is so well-versed in the replacement of teeth that he partnered with a California-based laboratory to develop a treatment that’s exclusive to Dream-Dentistry & Sleep Care: the Comfort Lock Implant Bridge™!
This teeth replacement solution replaces the traditional screws used for dental implants with a new locking mechanism. The Comfort Lock Implant Bridge is an alternative to the All-On-4® dental implants procedure, which anchors an entire upper or lower set of artificial teeth to just four dental implants. Instead, the CLIB can be made to be removable for more thorough at-home cleanings, and it’s about two-thirds the cost of All-On-4.
Step #2: Assessing Your Bone Health
Part of the planning process involves reviewing your medical and dental histories to make sure you’re healthy enough to undergo the dental implant procedure. But don’t worry. Generally speaking, if you’re well enough to undergo a tooth extraction, you’re healthy enough to undergo dental implant placement.
Then, we’ll assess the density and strength of your jawbone. Remember how we said that dental implants mimic the natural structure of teeth? With a natural tooth, the jaw bone supports the tooth root, holding it securely in place. Similarly, your dental implant — or artificial tooth root — will be held in place by your jaw bone. We want to make sure that your bone is dense enough and solid enough to support the implant.
If we determine that your bone density isn’t quite where it needs to be, don’t fret. This doesn’t disqualify you from getting dental implants.
We’re able to offer a procedure called bone grafting, which supplements your natural bone with a graft to build a stronger foundation for the dental implants. We also offer mini dental implants, which as the name suggests, are smaller than conventional dental implants and therefore require less bone to be successful.
Step #3: Placing The Implants
After all the planning and preparation are finished, you’ll come in to have your dental implants placed. Many patients say this is a relatively comfortable procedure to begin with, but at Dream-Dentistry & Sleep Care, we go the extra mile to ensure a painless and stress-free procedure.
In fact, we’re so dedicated to your comfort that our team meets once a week to discuss ways in which we can make your experience here as pleasant as possible! One of the unique things about our office is that we have an actual “comfort menu,” a list of amenities — from soft blankets to supportive neck wraps to video entertainment — that you can “order” for a personalized and comfortable experience. We also use a sting-free local anesthesia to thoroughly numb the area.
You can also choose from three dental sedation options, which minimize tension and discomfort during your dental work.
- Nitrous oxide. Also known as laughing gas, this mild form of sedation is inhaled with the help of a small mask.
- Oral sedation. This form of sedation is a bit deeper than nitrous oxide, and it comes in the form of a pill that you’ll take before your appointment. You’ll arrive relaxed and ready for the dental work.
- IV sedation. This is the deepest form of sedation we offer, and it allows you to experience your procedure in a dream-like state.
As far as the actual placement of the implant goes, it’s a pretty simple procedure. We’ll simply insert the implant into the jaw bone, where your natural tooth root once stood. After that, we’ll give it some time to heal, during which the bone will actually fuse to the dental implant.
Step #4: Restoring Your Smile
Once the area surrounding your dental implants has sufficiently healed, we’ll affix your custom dental restoration to the artificial tooth roots. These restorations are meticulously crafted to look like your natural teeth so they’ll blend in seamlessly with your smile!
